Jars Trauma Care Conference 2025

Africa faces a complex landscape of trauma-related challenges stemming from historical injustices, ongoing conflicts, poverty, and social inequalities. Despite these challenges, African communities possess rich traditions of healing, resilience, and collective support that offer profound insights for contemporary trauma care approaches.

The Yoruba concept of "Kàdàásile kà tun sà" ("throw it down and to restore) along with many other indigenous concepts captures the essence of African healing philosophy - not merely treating symptoms, but restoring wholeness to individuals and communities. .

This perspective aligns with the need for sustainable development on the continent by recognizing that true Wellness must address systemic issues like the scourge of traumatic stress while honoring cultural wisdom.

The African Trauma Care Alliance (ATCA) is proud to announce its 4th annual African Trauma Care Conference (ATCC 2025). As an organization dedicated to advocating for mental health, affordable mental health & trauma care, and the integration of trauma care into systems, ATCA recognizes the critical importance of addressing trauma in African contexts. The ATC conference aims to bring together mental health professionals, policymakers, educators, and stakeholders from various sectors to discuss and strategize on integrating trauma care across different systems in Africa.

The theme for ATCC 2025 is "Pathway to Wellness, an African Global Perspective." Research increasingly demonstrates that unaddressed trauma significantly impedes sustainable development efforts across sectors, systems, economic growth, and social cohesion. We believe that trauma focused approaches to healing, care, service delivery and development show remarkable success in achieving lasting positive outcomes. ATCC 2025 explores these vital connections through an African lens.

With focus on West Africa and East Africa, ATCC 2025 - Pathways to Wellness aim to highlight contemporary and traditional trauma focused approaches in these diverse African contexts and reflects reflects our commitment to: Cultural Authenticity: Healing approaches rooted in African values and epistemologies Holistic Integration: Addressing trauma's individual, community, and systemic dimensions Innovative Sustainable Solutions: Interventions that strengthen both immediate wellness and long-term development Collective Wisdom: Learning from diverse African healing traditions and contemporary innovations
