Join the Movement: Trauma Care is Community Care

1 in 3 individuals experience a mental health condition in their lifetime. Trauma accounts for a significant portion of these cases. Whether from the toxic stresses of economic recession, political upheavals, wars, communal conflicts, rape, kidnappings, human trafficking, gender-based violence, domestic abuse, or disability, trauma knows no boundaries, affecting individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.

The implications of untreated trauma are persistent, prevalent and pervasive, extending far beyond the realm of mental health. It can erode relationships, hinder academic and professional success, and perpetuate cycles of poverty and inequality.

Furthermore, trauma survivors are at increased risk of physical health problems, including chronic pain, cardiovascular disease, and autoimmune disorders, highlighting the interconnectedness of mind and body. Access to affordable quality mental health care becomes paramount, offering a lifeline to those grappling with the aftermath of trauma and paving the way towards a brighter, more resilient future.

We believe that healing happens when we come together. That is why we started the Mental Health awareness campaign tagged Trauma Care is Community Care and incorporated a community-oriented trauma awareness walk. The Jars Education's annual Traumatic Stress Awareness Walk is more than just an event – it's a powerful statement that trauma care is a collective responsibility, a reminder that no one should suffer alone. It is a powerful reminder that trauma is beatable and treatable.

This year, our theme is Healthy Communites. We believe that together, we can create communities that thrive on mutual support, respect, and care, that prioritizes the well-being of all its members, fostering a culture of inclusivity and kindness.

Healthy communities start with healthy individuals. By coming together, we can build stronger, more resilient communities that prioritize mental health and well-being. We can break the stigma surrounding mental health challenges and bring hope and light to the scourge of traumatic stress, the walk is being coordinated in various locations across Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
